Landscaping has always been more than a profession for Mason — it is a lifelong passion shaped by family, travel and a deep connection to the outdoors.

Growing up surrounded by a family-run nursery that evolved into a horticultural and landscaping business, Mason spent much of his childhood immersed in gardens, developing an early appreciation for plants, natural materials and the way outdoor spaces are experienced. Naturally, this led to Mason beginning his landscaping apprenticeship in his early adult years.

Travel has since become an integral part of Mason's design philosophy. Over the years, he has drawn inspiration from a diverse range of environments — from the tropical landscapes of South-East Asia to the timeless elegance of the Mediterranean. His greatest influence, however, came from spending months living out of the back of an old Landcruiser, exploring Australia's vastly different landscapes by road. Those experiences fostered a deeper appreciation for the relationship between people, place and landscape, and it was through that connection that his passion for design began to take shape.

KLAD was founded on the belief that exceptional landscapes are created through a deeply considered and collaborative process. Mason recognises that no two projects are the same, so taking the time to understand each client's lifestyle, aspirations and the unique characteristics of their property is an integral part of the process. Bringing these elements together is what continues to inspire Mason to create landscapes that feel as though they have always belonged there.

For Mason, the greatest reward lies not only in creating beautiful outdoor spaces with his own hands, but in watching them evolve over time — becoming places to relax, gather, entertain and enjoy for years to come.
